ITS Coffee Break for 2/19/2008
In this edition of the ITS Coffee Break, hosts Ken Newquist and Courtney Bentley take a sneak peak at Moodle 1.9, talk about the survey tool migration from Vovici to Opinio, and discuss the new portable audio kits available in Skillman. In Tech News they review the Harvard Arts & Sciences Faculty's arguments in favor of providing open access to their scholarly articles, and look at Research Blogging, a web site that chronicles academic blog posts and online peer-reviewed research articles. In Help News, they announce upcoming training workshops and offer tips on how to update a file resource within Moodle.

Misadventures with the 10.4.11 version of Apple's operating system lead off Tech News, followed by news of the new Firefox 3 Beta and commentary on Facebook's new "social ads" system. In Help News, they discuss problems with sending messages to Yahoo! mail accounts and talk about new Moodle documentation and workshops. Opinio, which replaces Vovici EFM Continuum (formely Web Surveyor), streamlines account creation and management, offers additional features, and simplifies conditional branching. ITS Recommendation Regarding LeopardITS has been testing Apple's Leopard version of the Mac OS since its release and has discovered several incompatibility issues with Leopard and applications used on campus. For this reason, ITS will not be upgrading college-owned Macs to Leopard until the incompatibility issues have been dealt with. |
