ITS is developing a new platform for all Web content hosted in the Lafayette.edu domain. This is not a redesign of the college's main Web site or its content, but an upgrade to and augmentation of the software and hardware that support departmental, organizational, and personal web sites. The platform will be built using new blade servers and virtualization technology that will allow us to offer new tools that cannot be offered on the current platform. We will also deploy WordPress, a lightweight content management system that will allow users to more easily create and manage their Web sites.

The new platform will feature current versions of supporting Web applications and adhere to best practices. As a result, some Web site owners may need to replace outdated scripts or databases not supported by the new platform's more secure configurations. Please read through the documentation below, particularly the Frequently Asked Questions, to learn more about the transition to the new platform. Please email its@lafayette.edu with questions not addressed here.

The tools available on the new platform will allow individuals, departments, and organizations to:

  • Quickly and easily create and maintain a Web site.
  • Post audio and video content inline with content or via podcasting.
  • Publish photo galleries.
  • Log into Web site "back ends" using the Network ID.
  • Host departmental sites on subdomains (e.g., biology.lafayette.edu, registrar.lafayette.edu, etc.).
