Editing the Background Image in an iDVD Theme Template
If you’d like to use a particular iDVD theme but want to add or change elements in the background, such as the color, follow these steps to locate and edit the background image:
Save a copy of your chosen theme as a Favorite:
- In iDVD select the theme you wish to change.
- In Settings, click Save as Favorite.
- In the pop-up box, name the new design.
- Uncheck Replace existing.
- Click OK.
- Close iDVD.
Locate your iDVD Favorite files:
- Open Finder.
- Double-click on the hard drive icon.
- Select Library/iDVD/Favorites.
- Right-click on the icon for the Favorite you just created.
- Select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu.
- Double-click on the Contents folder.
- Double-Click on the Resources folder.
Make backup copies of the original image files:
- Right-click on the Background.tif.
- Select Copy Background.tif.
- Right-click on an open area of the folder contents.
- Select Paste Item.
- Select Copy Thumbnail.tif.
- Right-click on an open area of the folder contents.
- Select Paste Item.
Edit your background images:
- Open Background.tif in Photoshop.
- Make desired changes in graphics and colors.
- Save the image in the Resources folder.
- From the Image menu, select Size.
- Enter a new size for the image: 116 pixels wide and 100 pixels high.
- Click OK.
- Save the reduced size image as Thumbnail.tif, replacing the original file.
Open your newly edited Favorite:
- Open iDVD and create a new document
- Select Customize/Themes3. From the Themes menu select Favorites
- Your newly edited Favorite will be displayed
- Click on the thumbnail image to open the edited theme.
- Proceed with your iDVD design.
To restore the original background:
Rename Background Copy.tif to BackgroundBAK.tif
Note: Changes made on a Lafayette lab computer and will be lost when the computer is
rebooted. You can, however, save copies of the edited background images and thumbnails
on external media for reuse.
