IT security experts are warning that a new strain of the potentially devastating Conficker worm has appeared. Microsoft has released a new version of their Malicious Software Removal Tool designed to deal with this new strain. All Lafayette Windows users are urged to:

1. Download and run the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool (note, this file is only accessible from on campus).
2. After the download finishes, look for the file windows-kb890830-v2.8.exe in the download location and run it. (Note: make sure it's version 2.8; running the Quick Scan is usually sufficient.)
3. Go to Windows Update (Start - Windows/Microsoft Update) and apply all critical Windows updates.
4. Make sure you have the current version of Symantec AntiVirus installed on your computer.
