Lafayette's email and calendaring system, Zimbra, provides real-time, wireless synchronization of email, contacts, and calendar information between the Zimbra server and any smartphone with ActiveSync technology.

If you plan on having your smartphone vendor configure your device for you, please print this page and bring it with you to the phone store.

To configure ActiveSync on most smartphones:

  1. On your smartphone, find the ActiveSync configuration settings. You can consult with your device's user manual to find these settings. (On many devices you need to select Exchange Server to access these settings.)
  2. Enter your account information:
    • Set "Email" to your full Lafayette Email address.
    • Domain: leave blank (Windows Mobile devices may require you to enter lafayette.edu)
    • Username: your Network ID
    • Password: your Network ID password
    • Description: This field is optional, but you can put something like "Lafayette Email."
    • Exchange Server information: Enter the appropriate server:
      • Employees: facstaff-mail.lafayette.edu
      • Students: students-mail.lafayette.edu

To configure ActiveSync on an iPhone:

  1. From the iPhone Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars," then tap Add Account.
  3. Tap account type "Microsoft Exchange".
  4. Enter your account information:
    • Set "Email" to your full Lafayette Email address.
    • Domain: leave blank
    • Username: your Network ID
    • Password: your Network ID password
    • Description: This field is optional, but you can put something like "Lafayette Email."
    • Server: enter the appropriate server:

  5. Tap the items you want to use on iPhone (mail, contacts, calendars).
  6. Set how many days of email you want to sync to iPhone.

If you already have contact or calendar information on your iPhone when you enable the account, iPhone asks what you want to do with existing information. You can choose to merge the existing data into your Exchange account, keep it in a separate account on iPhone (the account is labeled "On My iPhone"), or delete it. Existing bookmarks can only be merged or deleted.
