If you have a laptop equipped with a wireless card and are a current Lafayette employee, Lafayette student, or an invited guest of the college, you can connect to Lafayette's wireless network.

In all campus locations where wireless is installed, your laptop's wireless card should find the "LC" network. Successful authentication, which requires valid Lafayette Network ID credentials, will allow access to campus network services as well as the Internet. (Access for invited Guests is limited to Internet access only.)

To connect to Lafayette's wireless networks, use the appropriate set of instructions; once connected, you will then need to authenticate for wireless access.

  1. Windows Vista
  2. Windows XP
  3. Mac OS X

Windows Vista

  1. Right-click on the wireless network icon located in the System Tray and select Connect to a network.
  2. Select the LC wireless network and click [Connect].
  3. Click Connect Anyway.
  4. Authenticate your computer to the Lafayette wireless network.

Windows XP

  1. Right-click on the wireless network icon located in the System Tray and select View Wireless Networks.
    Wireless icon in System Tray
  2. Select the LC wireless network and click [Connect].
  3. Authenticate your computer to the Lafayette wireless network.

Mac OS X

  1. Click the Wireless icon in the top-right corner of your screen and select the LC wireless network.
  2. Authenticate your computer to the Lafayette wireless network. (See below.)

Authenticate Your Computer to the Lafayette Wireless Network

Once connected, you will need to authenticate to wireless with Network ID credentials, but the precise procedure depends...

  • If you're a Lafayette employee or student and have already installed the Cisco Clean Access Agent on your computer...
...the Agent login dialog should appear within seconds of connecting. Provide your Network ID and password. That's it.
  • If you're a Lafayette employee or student and have NOT already installed the Cisco Clean Access Agent on your computer...
...your first attempt to access a Web page will produce the Network Admission Control login page. After providing your Network ID and password, you will need to download and install the Cisco Clean Access Agent. Successful installation of the Agent will produce the Agent Login. Provide your Network ID and password. As long as you leave the Clean Access Agent installed and running, you should not be prompted to install it again.
  • If you're a Lafayette employee or student and use an operating system for which a Cisco Clean Access Agent client is not available...
...your first attempt to access a Web page will produce the Network Admission Control login page. Provide your Network ID and password.
  • If you're an invited guest of the college...
...ask your sponsor to obtain guest Network ID credentials for you. Your first attempt to access a Web page will produce the Network Admission Control login page. Provide the guest credentials given to you.

The connection should last as long as the computer and its network device are powered on; the authentication process will need to be repeated after two hours of network inactivity. (Defined as either the wireless card or the computer being powered down for at least two hours.)

The Network ID and password are used for logging in to the LC network, but the wireless login process does not actually log you in to Novell. In order to access Novell services (e.g., your home directory, aka your "U drive") you must use the Novell NetWare Login after establishing wireless access.
