Part of protecting your computer means installing anti-virus software and keeping it current. In an effort to protect the campus from virus outbreaks, Lafayette has licensed Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) Corporate Edition software for campus and home use.

Windows XP and Windows Vista Installation

The current versions of SAV are 10.1.7 for Windows XP and 10.2 for Windows Vista. You can install the Windows versions "on top" of Version 8.x if it's already installed on your computer. However, if you have any other anti-virus software installed (e.g., McAfee Virus Scan), or a version of SAV earlier than version 8, you should uninstall it before installing SAV 10.x

Note that installing Symantec AntiVirus without first uninstalling other anti-virus software can result in damage to your computer. Before downloading and installing Symantec AntiVirus make sure you have read the installation instructions.

Mac OS X Installation

Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 works with Mac OS 10.4.10 and higher only, so be sure to update your OS before installing SAV.

Dial-up installation

The installer file and virus definition update files can be very large. If you are accessing the Internet from home through a dial-up connection, please consider obtaining an installation CD from ITS.

To request a CD containing the installer and virus defintion files, email ITS@lafayette.edu. The CD and instructions for installation will be delivered to your campus address.
