If you know your current password...

  1. Go to http://password.lafayette.edu.
  2. Click the link to "Change your Network ID password."
  3. Enter your Network ID, current password, and the new password. Please use a strong password.
  4. Click OK.

If you have not done so already, now would be a good time to set up a Challenge/Response key, in case you ever forget your password.

If you are a college employee and use a College-owned Windows computer that you do not share, you will still need to update your Windows Workstation password (see below).

If you do NOT know your current password...

If you have previously set up a Challenge/Response key:

  1. Go to http://password.lafayette.edu.
  2. Click the link to "Reset a forgotten Network ID password."
  3. Enter your Network ID and click OK.
  4. Provide the correct answer to your challenge question.
  5. Enter a new password. Please use a strong password.

If you have not set up a Challenge/Response key:

You will need to have your password reset at the Reference Desk in Skillman Library. You will be required to show your Lafayette ID card to have your password reset. Because your identity must be verified, passwords cannot be reset over the phone. After you do this, it would be a good idea to set up a Challenge/Response key, in case you forget your password again.

Updating your Windows Workstation password

College-owned Windows computers use Novell for initial authentication. For computers that are used by one employee only, when you log in, Novell compares the password you provide to the one Windows has saved. If you have just changed your Network ID password or had it reset, Windows will still "remember" your old password, which will need to be updated. Here's how:

  1. Log in to Novell using your Network ID and new password (make sure that "Workstation Only" is not checked).
  2. After logging in to Novell, you will be prompted for a Windows Workstation password. Make sure that your Network ID is in the username field, and enter your old password into the password field.
  3. Check the box to synchronize your Novell and Windows Workstation password.
  4. Click OK.

Windows now has your new password saved, and you will not see the Windows Workstation prompt until the next time you change your Network ID password.
