Network and Infrastructure
ITS maintains and extends the college’s digital infrastructure, which includes two data centers and a robust virtualized MPLS routing and switching infrastructure. The campus network runs on a 10Gb backbone and offers 1Gb connectivity to the desktop. ITS also supports two geographically diverse 300M Internet connections as well a connection to Internet2, a high-speed research network for higher education. Lafayette also supports IPv6 connectivity from an internal IPv6 pilot network. Our wireless network is available in all campus buildings, and approximately 20% of campus wireless is 802.11n capable.
More than 120 servers (half of which are virtual) run on RedHat’s clustering and virtualization technology, and utilize two IBM XIV SANs. In addition, ITS manages the college’s OpenLDAP based identity management infrastructure, which includes leading-edge use of Federated Identity Management via the InCommon Federation and Shibboleth middleware.
