Authentication Requirement for Classroom Computers
Access to all Smart Classroom computers (both PCs and Macs) requires authentication. To log in to a classroom computer, all Faculty, Students, and Staff can use their Network ID credentials. If a guest requires access to a classroom computer, credentials can be generated by a Lafayette sponsor using our password utility at: https://password.lafayette.edu/
Please note that logging in to a PC also automatically grants access to your network shares, or Novell drives. These shares may also be referred to as one's U drive or P drive. It is critical that once you are finished using the classroom PC, you log out of the machine, not simply close the application or browser. If you do not log out of the machine, other users can gain access to your data. To log out of the computer, simply click on the start button on the lower left corner and click "Log out."
If logging out for a short period of time is impractical (e.g., for a brief absence from the classroom), users can "detach" from the Novell network thusly:
- Right-click the red Novell "N" in the system tray.
- Select "Netware Connections..."
- Click LAFNET.
- Click the [Detach] button.
- Close the window.
This will sever connections to all Novell network drives while leaving the system otherwise intact. To regain access to a network drive, simply right-click the red Novell "N" in the system tray, select "Netware Login...", and log in.
